Christopher Atkinson
I am a well-motivated self-employed consultant archaeologist and current PhD researcher specialising in landscape and community archaeology. I have over 18-years of employed experience in archaeology, and have developed a range of heritage-related experiences in project management, supervision, community outreach and archaeological techniques, which includes landscape survey, geophysical survey, excavation, detailed recording and reporting, illustrations, aerial photography, LiDAR analysis and the use of geographic information systems (GIS) particularly QGIS.
My Story
From a young age, full of family adventures in the great outdoors, with visits to museums, medieval castles, prehistoric sites, and roman remains both at home and abroad, I have unsurprisingly developed a love for heritage and archaeology. Graduating in Archaeology in 2005 at the University of Wales Lampeter, I was luck enough to begin my career in archaeology in 2006, when I became Community Archaeologist for Herefordshire Council's Archaeology Service. Since then, I have led an almost full-time career supporting and/or leading community and archaeological landscape projects across England, for organisations such as the National Trust, Historic England, Natural England, and numerous community groups and local authorities.
I am particularly passionate about heritage, and its active promotion to, and involvement of the local community. Heritage forms the backdrop of all of our cultures and societies. If archaeology isn't for everyone to enjoy, share and learn from, then who is it for!?
